Turkey & Overseas Clinics

Answering the “Why Is Yours So Expensive” Call

For Front Desk & Patient Advocates

Consistent, compliant, repeatable

Some callers have already priced an overseas clinic, often in Turkey, at a fraction of a domestic quote, and they’re calling to see if you’ll match it. Arguing the number directly loses every time. This guide covers reframing what that lower number actually buys, from surgeon experience to follow-up care to what happens if something goes wrong on the other side of the world, and letting the caller reach their own conclusion instead of being told one. You’ll get sample scripts for answering the “why is yours so expensive” question without sounding defensive. Let the caller talk themselves out of the cheaper option.

Why This Objection Happens

Overseas clinics market rock-bottom prices for large graft counts. Callers repeating those numbers back to you aren’t wrong to ask about them, they’ve just been shown a price without the context of who is actually performing the procedure.

Sample Script

Sample Script

Caller: “I saw clinics in Turkey doing this for a third of your price, why is yours so much more?”

Staff: “That’s a fair question. A couple things worth asking them directly: who’s actually performing your surgery, and what’s their license and training? A lot of overseas clinics won’t give you a straight answer to that. Here, [Doctor Name] personally performs every procedure, and that’s something you can verify before you book anything.”

Industry Research

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) has surveyed its own members on this exact pattern: over 63% rated the black-market hair transplant problem an 8 or higher out of 10 for severity, documented specifically in Turkey, Iran, Eastern Europe, and Asia. The common pattern: one licensed “token” doctor on staff to satisfy appearances, while technicians, in some documented cases people with no medical background at all, perform the actual extraction and placement. ISHRS’s Operation Restore has provided over $650,000 in free corrective surgery to patients harmed this way since 2004.

Tip

Don’t disparage in general terms. Ask the same questions ISHRS itself tells patients to ask, and let the gap answer itself. “Who is performing my surgery, and what’s their license?” does more work than any opinion you could offer.
