Timing Objections
When “Not Right Now” Really Means “Not Yet”
Consistent, compliant, repeatable
A caller says “I’ll think about it” or “maybe next month,” and it’s tempting to hear that as a no. It usually isn’t. The patient wants in, they just need a specific reason to act today instead of someday, and this guide covers exactly why the objection happens before it gives you the fix. You’ll get sample scripts that turn a soft “later” into a held appointment without pressure, plus what to avoid saying in the moment. Give them the reason to act now, not another reason to wait.
Why This Objection Happens
A timing objection almost never means no. The caller already self-selected in by picking up the phone and asking questions. The only thing standing between them and a booked consult is whether someone on your team pins down a real date, or lets “later” stay vague. Vague timing with no return date is how an interested caller quietly becomes a caller you never hear from again.
Sample Scripts
Caller: “I’m not ready to book anything right now, I just had a question.”
Staff: “Totally understand, no pressure at all. While I have you, let’s go ahead and hold a time on the calendar. Free consultations fill up quick, and if it doesn’t work for you, you can move it with a quick call. What does [Day] at [Time] look like for you?”
Caller: “I think I want to wait until it gets worse before doing anything.”
Staff: “That’s completely your call, there’s no rush on our end. What I’d suggest is a quick complimentary consult now so [Doctor Name] can give you a baseline, then we check back with you every few months. That way when you are ready, we already have a plan in place.”
Never let a call end on “just call us back.” Every timing objection needs one of two things before you hang up: a specific date on the calendar, or a specific follow-up date your team initiates.
A caller says, “Let me think about it and I’ll call you back.” What’s the strongest next move?
“Okay, sounds good, talk soon!”
“Sure, take your time. Can I go ahead and hold Thursday at 2pm so the spot doesn’t fill? You can always move it.”
Quote the price again to help them decide.
End the call and wait for them to call back.
